The Baggies were set the tough task of taking on Taylors Lake in an Indigenous round but fell well short.
Swifts went down by 71 points.
With a big crowd set for a good game the bounce of the ball was perfect in the middle of the Indigenous flag painted on North Park.
The atmosphere lived up to the expectation but the game didn't as they Lakers trounced the Baggies.
Heading into the match, Swifts coach Scott Carey put an emphasis on his side’s first quarter and the way he wanted them to start the game.
But the Baggies failed as the Lakers got the early jump and led by 20 points.
Carey said the Baggies had wanted to be close at the first break.
“We really aimed for that first quarter effort this week,” he said.
“So we were disappointed with that. It meant we had to play catch up football for the rest of the match.”
The Baggies were poised for one last challenge after three-quarter-time.
But Taylors Lake kicked two early goals and it was the nail in the coffin.
Swifts finished 9.12 (66) to the Lakers’ 21.11(137)
The Baggies best players were Sean Mantell, Scott Carey, Jake Goodes, Ryan Folkes, Dean Dallinger and Ethan Kennedy.
Carey said Mantell had worked hard in and under, while he was extremely impressed with Dallinger in the forward line.
“It took Dean a little bit to get going,” he said.
“But in the second half he was fantastic. He really gave us a target to kick too.”
Dallinger was playing his first game back for almost nine seasons and will help Swifts out if he can continue to play.
He has committed to play, but work commitments could see him miss a few games.
Carey said Dallinger was signed on.
“Hopefully that means he is here more than he is not.”
Dallinger didn't kick a goal but had several score involvements.
Swifts will now have a week off with the interleague break.
Four players including Mantell, Damon Folkes, Andrew Cameron and Carey have all be named in the squad with a team set to be released on Thursday night.
The break will give the likes of Nick Pickering and Blake Swain and chance to recover from injuries.
Pickering missed due to a broken hand while Swain was concussed.
Folkes could have befitted from the week off after injuring his shoulder in the weekend’s clash. The Horsham District Football Netball League side will play Maryborough Castlemaine District Football League.
