Detectives from the Crime Gangs Task Force arrested the 20-year-old man at his Gilles Plains home last night and charged him with fabrication of evidence.
Police will allege he produced the fake wedding invitation at the Holden Hill Magistrates Court in a bid to convince a magistrate to allow him to travel interstate while on bail.
His real intention was to travel to Canberra for next week's Rebels National Run, police say.
He is expected to appear in court later today.
