The Lions started well with a five-goal opening term and were still within reach at half time, despite SMW Rovers piling on six goals in the second term.
But with three under 16s players and several reserves stepping up and playing two games, the Lions were unable to maintain the tempo and eventually lost out by 66 points.
BJ Burton was once again Great Western’s best, but youngster Jayden McCartney was another shining light in the loss. He stepped up from the under 16s and controlled a half back flank.
Cody Virgona was also in everything, while Brett Dowie, Rayne Salmon, Matthew Gregory and Ben Newson also tried hard in the loss.
Coach Andrew Bach was disappointed with the loss, but praised those players who stepped up and covered for the shortages.
