Property specific flood charts have been developed for all houses in Glenorchy that are likely to be flooded or isolated by flooding and property specific flood chart magnets will be delivered to these properties on Sunday, July 12. The magnet shows the flood height that will impact properties boundaries and when above floor flooding of a residence or structure might start.
It is important for residents to know how the predicted flood levels are likely to impact them as they may be affected before the peak. Page three in the Local Flood Guide explains how the flood gauge for Glenorchy, in addition to the property specific flood chart for relevant properties, can be used as resources to decide when residents need to start implementing their home emergency plan.
Bureau of Meteorology flood warnings include a prediction of the flood height of the Wimmera River, at the Glenorchy Gauge (downstream of Glenorchy at the weir).
While no two floods are the same, the tables contained within the Glenorchy Local Flood Guide provide an indication of what can be expected at certain heights, including when access may be cut off and when individual properties may be affected.
"These guides are vital to help people understand where the flood risk is in the town, so that they can have a plan of action and help to reduce the damage when a flood occurs,” Stawell SES Controller Alan Blight said.
Residents, business owners and visitors can also collect a copy of the Glenorchy Local Flood Guide from The Glenorchy Post Office or the Northern Grampians Shire Council Office in Stawell.
