The Horsham man, aged 45, was travelling between Halls Gap and Horsham on Mt Victory Road at about noon when he lost control of his motorcycle on a section of the road.
The man and the motorbike then fell up to 20 metres down an embankment.
Members of the SES responded to the incident and had no option other than to carry out a high angle rescue to retrieve the man from heavy bushland along the roadside.
The man was taken by road ambulance to Halls Gap where he was then airlifted to Melbourne to receive treatment for injuries he sustained to his back and ankle, and abdominal pain.
Horsham police sergeant Julie Bergen said there was no indication the motorcyclist was speeding at the time of the incident.
