After two winless seasons, Stawell celebrated taking the four points for the first time against league newcomers Timboon Taipans.
While the core of the playing group has remained the same the coaching structure has changed and now under Ben Leslie for a second season, they look set to be competitive.
While not their best game of the season to date, Leslie was over the moon with their victory.
"We are pretty happy to get that first win for the association," Leslie said.
"It has been a long time coming and for everyone involved it was thoroughly deserved."
While Timboon might not have been the strongest of opposition, nothing can be taken away from the Wildcats who won by 41 points.
The Wildcats went into the game confident after a strong showing against Terang last weekend where they shot the ball poorly.
At times against Timboon they struggled to convert, but the high pressure defence resulted in getting plenty of looks.
"Our defensive intensity changed the tempo of the game," Leslie said.
"We played the game on our terms and that obviously helps."
Toby Smith was the key man to getting the ball rolling as his defender slipped under a screen and he hit a three pointer.
Smith was a steady head for the Wildcats in offence and despite giving away inches in defence, he proved a tough cover for Timboon.
Smith finished with 18 points and was one of the more influential players on the court.
Eugene Omiona has arrived in the CBL with his breakout game scoring 19 points.
Laced with athleticism Omiona hit threes and beat his opponent off the dribble to provide the small crowd with some excitement.
Wildcats will look forward to the challenge of taking on last year's title winners Mount Gambier with their new found confidence.
"For us it isn't about winning games," Leslie said.
"Winning games is nice, but it is about improvement. We just want to be competitive and if we shoot well, we can compete with the best."
Both Wildcats men and women will play tomorrow night in front of their home crowd with the ladies to start at 6pm and the men at 8pm.
There is a $5 entry fee however under 12 children enter free.
Wildcubs are encouraged to get there for their chance to take part in half time entertainment.
