The club has been running since 1954 at the Lake Fyans foreshore and has seen many members of the community involved in its history.
The club was started by a handful of enthusiastic locals at the lake which was constructed early last century on an area originally known as the 'Black Swamp'.
The idea of establishing a boating club quickly gathered momentum and within a very short space of time, the foundations were laid for what has been an amazing history.
Power boating and skiing were very popular in the early years and for many years the club was known as the Stawell Yacht and Power Boat Club and was an integral part of the community.
The current committee and members are wishing to pay homage to past members who showed great foresight and courage in developing the club for the benefit of all.
After suffering a decline in numbers over time and being on the edge of closing its doors due to low water levels between 2000 and 2010, the club appears to have weathered the worst.
With numbers now stable and slowly increasing, the 60th anniversary could not have come at a better time.
The committee is wishing to spread the word to past members and their families and friends of the club, and to encourage as many of them as possible to come and share the celebrations on the day.
Stawell Yacht Club would also like to hear from members with knowledge of the club's history, especially photos and trophies awarded over the years.
The date for this special event will be Sunday December 7, which coincides with the annual Discover Sailing day, a national program offering members of the public a chance to experience sailing for free.
