The L2P Learner Driver Mentor program allows disadvantaged young drivers to gain their necessary 120 hours of driving experience while on their L plates. Volunteer supervising drivers are trained and supported to mentor young people on the road.
The program provides driving lessons and access to a community vehicle for the learner while mentors gain the satisfaction of contributing to community safety on our roads.
Early in May CGLLEN held a morning tea to thank the program sponsors for their donations which enabled the purchase of the L2P Mazda 2, specifically for use in the Northern Grampians program.
Stawell Toyota and Kia Used Car Division, Northern Grampians Shire Council, Stawell Apex, Grampians Toy Club Inc, Crocodile Gold - Stawell Gold Mine, Stawell Rotary Club, Stawell Lions Club, Gino's Tyre Service and Stawell Police were all acknowledged for the support they have provided to local young people through their donations.
The Northern Grampians L2P Program currently has 10 active learners and mentors out on the road with the vehicle regularly being seen around the district. Referrals are still being taken for young people aged between 16-21 years, who do not have access to suitable supervising drivers or a vehicle to gain their learner experience.
Contact Central Grampians LLEN for more information or to obtain an application form.
CGLLEN are also seeking mentors for the L2P program. Your help can make a real difference.
You can help disadvantaged learners gain the skills and confidence to gain their licence and open doors to future employment opportunities.
Interested community members are invited to contact Youth Project Officer Sarah Garton on 0418 535 478 for more information or to get an application pack.
