The event was part of the annual Farming in the 21st Century series and was supported by Northern Grampians Shire Council, Project Platypus, Upper Wimmera Landcare and the Australian Government.
Northern Grampians Shire Council Business Services and Tourism Officer and Farming in the 21st Century committee member, Shelly Chalmers said 'Passing the Baton' provided participants with valuable information on handing the farm over to the next generation.
"The session featured guest speaker, Alan Blackburn who has a range of experience in the field of succession planning," she said.
"Project Platypus selected this topic because establishing a clear succession plan assists in long term planning and decision making and helps provide clarity and certainty to all family members.
"During the session participants learnt about retirement planning, what their capital and income needs might be and some of the essential accounting and financial aspects of succession planning."
Ms Chalmers said the workshop was interactive and gave those in attendance an opportunity to ask questions of the guest speaker.
"We've had some really positive feedback from the night. People were impressed by the number of different topics and many said Alan covered things they hadn't even considered," she said.
'Passing the Baton' was the first workshop in the 2014 series, hosted by Northern Grampians Shire Council, Ararat Rural City and Pyrenees Shire Council.
The next event will be a Pasture Update in Ararat on Wednesday, March 19.
