In a survey conducted by Northern Grampians Shire Council in September, residents indicated they would benefit from increased opening hours during weekends and peak periods.
On December 26, Council will introduce seasonal hours to better reflect site usage during these times.
Summer hours will be in place until April 30 next year and will see the Halls Gap Transfer Station open from 12pm until 5pm on Wednesdays and Sundays, and 10am until 3pm on Saturdays.
Mayor Cr Kevin Erwin said Council had agreed to change the current hours to better meet the requirements of residents and property owners.
"Weekends and holidays are when the majority of residents, community groups and sporting clubs are cleaning up and need to access the transfer station. It's also when holiday home owners tend to visit their properties," he said.
"While we can't introduce hours that suit everyone, the changes are in response to feedback provided by the Halls Gap community."
From May 1, the Halls Gap Transfer Station will revert to winter hours which allow the public to access the site between 1pm and 4pm on Wednesdays and Sundays.
Spring hours will be between 12pm and 5pm on Wednesdays, 10am until 3pm on Saturdays and 12pm until 5pm on Sundays.
Cr Erwin said the seasonal hours would ensure the transfer station was operating efficiently.
"Data shows that usage of the transfer station during the winter months is minimal compared with other times of the year," he said.
"By introducing seasonal hours, we can keep the facility open when people are most likely to need it and reduce instances where we have a staff member on site to cater for one or two people."
