The term kicked off with students Olivia and Victor Quince, Kiara and Alexa Cameron and Zoe McGregor, representing Marnoo at the Rupanyup Anzac Day march and service.
The children marched behind the school banner before entering the Memorial Hall where they presented the banner for 'colours' and laid wreaths.
Less than a week later, the children were privileged to have seen the bike riders who were participating in the Tour de Cure.
The riders, who were raising money for cancer research, visited Marnoo as part of their ten-day cycle ride from Adelaide to Canberra.
The children met the final group of riders as they stopped at Shanahan Park for lunch.
The children heard from the cyclists how they were half way into their 1550km trip and that their bike ride had already raised two million dollars for cancer research. Highlights of the occasion for the children included having the riders give them a high five as they rode in for their pit stop, receiving a 'show bag', and being filmed by Sunrise TV camera crew.
The children appeared on the Sunrise program, albeit brief, the next day.
A new feature for the term was a wonderful school garden created by the students under the watchful eye of the school's LOTE (Language Other Than English) teacher, Meggy Boan.
While developing the garden the children had opportunities to learn and practise the Chinese language.
Along with the new school principal Grant Fielder, the school had another new addition.
Max, the school's axolotl (also known as Mexican walking fish) settled into his new home early in the term and has been a source of study for the students. The school's science lessons have included testing the acidity of the water and measuring Max's growth.
On Tuesday, May 21 the children went to the Country Women's Association Biggest Morning Tea at the Marnoo Presbyterian Church Hall.
It was a wonderfully organised event during which money was raised for cancer research.
As part of their visit to the morning tea, the children split into pairs and had to choose one of the delights on offer, take a photo of it and of the person who had made it. They also needed to record the name of the recipe.
Back at school the children had to find a recipe on the internet for the food that they had chosen.
Each pair then had to present to the class the recipe they had found and the photos that they had taken at the Morning Tea.
The students skills were tested a couple of days later in the Marnoo Master Chef competition. The competition involved the students making sugar cookies and they had only 45 minutes to make and bake the cookies. In the final scoring, two teams received a 9/10 and one team received a 5/10.
Students had two excursions to Rupanyup where they saw a performance called Spirit of Polynesia and the Canterbury Girls orchestra.
Towards the end of term, the school held a family get-together evening. The evening commenced with Kiara Cameron (year 3) welcoming everyone after which the children gave presentations using the school iPads about some of the work they have been doing this term.
A highlight of the evening for many was hearing the children talk about the musical instruments that they had made. There were some great inventions amongst the instruments presented.
As not all the children could be present to talk about their instruments, some pre-recorded videos were shown as part of the presentations. They were equally enjoyed.
The videos were recorded and presented using the iPads.
As a celebration for the efforts and the achievements of the students this term, the term culminated in a casual dress and jewellery day which included a disco.
The school would like to thank the students for their organisation of the day, and in particular, Ava Cunningham for helping organise the activities and Zoe McGregor for supplying the music and the music equipment.
The school would also like to thank Doug Page for supplying the disco lights and all the parents for their efforts in supplying the party food and helping organise the children with their clothes and jewellery.
