The modern centre will be developed at the site of the former allied health wing.
With consulting rooms and multidisciplinary gym, it will be the base for services like physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech pathology and clinics such as gait and balance clinic and cardiac rehabilitation. The space will also include a comfortable and modern oncology unit.
Stawell Regional Health Chief Executive, Rohan Fitzgerald said Nicholson Construction had substantial building experience in the health sector.
The centre has been funded by a $3.5 million Federal Government grant and an $180,000 State Government contribution. Local shearer Aaron Hemley raised $120,000 towards the oncology unit during a mammoth shearing marathon.
Mr Fitzgerald said during the construction phase, chemotherapy would be provided at the Day Centre and the consulting suites will be relocated to the north end of Building B. He said St John of God Pathology will continue to operate from their normal location.
The car park and driveway between Building B and the helipad car park will be closed. All traffic will be redirected through the helipad car park.
Pathology can be accessed through a walkway from the hospital. People with limited mobility are encouraged to park closer to the Pathology department by driving through the helipad car park. In the event of a helipad evacuation the closed driveway will be reopened to allow access while the main hospital car park is closed.
The project should be finished by the end of the year.
