Redemption was to be had in 1962 though, as Scott led the Swifts back to the grand final, from fourth place on the ladder where they were able to hold on to win the premiership.
Swifts Football Netball Club president Ian O'Donnell said he was just a child when Scott was in the Swifts colours, but he remembers the way people spoke about his footballing talents.
"I was just the mascot for those '61 and '62 teams, but everyone always said how good of a footballer he was and spoke about the way he played," he said.
"He was a tough player, centremen, and had great skill too.
"And as well as being a great coach, a winning coach, everyone always said he was a lovely bloke too."
