The State government and the Northern Grampians Shire Council have joined together to pool more than $200,000 to complete some much needed upgrades for Sloane Street.

The Victorian Government will contribute $184,000 to the project, with the Northern Grampians Shire, contributing more than $78,000 to help make Sloane Street safer and more accessible.
Through the government's Flexible Local Transport Solution program, will see a host of works including A new, fully accessible pedestrian crossing will be built at the intersection of Skene Street and Sloane Street.
Labor Member for Western Victoria, Jaala Pulford, said the improvements would enhance safety and access for pedestrians, cyclists, and mobility-aid users on this busy road, linking locals to education and community services.

"These new pedestrian crossings will be in the sections of Sloane Street they are needed the most, helping keep pedestrians, cyclists and mobility-aid users safe and connected to local services," she said.
"Pedestrians are amongst our most vulnerable road users - which is why we've invested in these upgrades to make walking safer for the Stawell community."
With the Skene Street and Sloane Street pedestrian crossing a centre island will be installed allowing locals to stage their journey along this busy stretch of town.

Travel in the health precinct will also be made more convenient with a second crossing to be installed at Scotland Place, giving better access to Stawell Regional Health and specialist health clinics.
Works will also deliver upgraded street lighting and new speed humps to encourage safer speeds and improve drainage along the stretch of road to prevent flooding.
A new bike lane will also be delivered as part of these works, significantly improving safety and accessibility for cyclists.
Works are expected to commence by the end of 2021.
