Residents at the popular tourist town currently need to travel to Ararat or Stawell to use a skating facility.
Halls Gap Ratepayers Association president Paul Turner said he pulled out extra chairs for the meeting, expecting community members to attend and express their interest in the idea.
“Not one new face turned up,” he said.
“Even after I had received emails and phone calls supporting the idea in the lead up- but no one attended and that was extremely disappointing.”
A committee to help drive the project would have been formed at the meeting if there were enough people who expressed their interest.
But the outcome cast doubts over a skate park being established at Halls Gap.
“This is something the community wants and so I thought it would be something people would be willing to work towards, but no one is willing to do the work,” Mr Turner said.
“Halls Gap Primary School have a record number of students enrolled this year, so there are plenty of younger kids in the area who would thrive with this sort of facility.”
Mr Turner said the town’s previous police Senior Sergeant was driving the project, but this became difficult after he left.
“We needed someone to help drive the cause, I would have been a support,” he said.
“From there we could have applied for funding if it was something the community wanted, but now it is not looking like this will be something that goes ahead.”
Northern Grampians Shire Cr Jason Hosemans said a skate park at Halls Gap would have been an extra asset to the town.
“The skate parks at Stawell and Ararat are popular, so it could be great for Halls Gap,” he said.
“It would be just another activity on offer to younger people here.”
