The two-day event is one of the first of the sailing season and attracts entries from across the state, including Warrnambool, Swan Hill, Colac, Melbourne and Frankston.
Club commodore Johno Knight said the Western Region Regatta was one of Lake Fyans’ busiest weekends of the year.
“Almost 40 boats on Lake Fyans is a great site,” he said.
“There would have been about 70 people on top of that – it was a great weekend.
“There was some excellent racing on both the Saturday and Sunday, in both light and strong breezes.”
Knight said the event was an opportunity for sailors to compare themselves with some of the sport’s best.
“We usually have one or two national title holders that come along each year, so it is a great opportunity for sailors to see where they are at, to improve and to build that competitive spirit,” he said.
Lake Fyans has hosted the event for the last six years and Knight said there were no signs of it slowing down.
“For a small club we do it quite well,” he said.
“It is hoped that with good water levels continuing, that the club and its band of dedicated volunteers will see it continue into the future.”
Andrew Vize won the Catamaran Class, Glenn Collings won the Monos Class and Lachlan Vize finished first among the juniors.
