Sahara Hollaway, 18, has received the Queen’s Scout Award.
She has been involved in 2nd Horsham Scouts since 2012.
Sahara received the award at a presentation on Saturday and will also go to Government House later this month to receive a certificate.
She said to receive the award, she had to do 250 hours of activities, which took her three years to complete.
Sahara had to complete activities relating to adventure, community involvement, leadership development and personal growth.
She said it was an amazing experience.
“I did different things like going on a four-day hike,” she said.
“I spent a week at the snow and went cross-country skiing, I slept in an igloo and was in a billy kart race.
“I did a leadership course and sat on my unit’s leadership council.
“I really enjoyed the experience and I got to do lots of different things that I otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity to do.”
Sahara said she wanted to complete the Queen’s Scout Award because it would be a challenge.
“I had completed the Australian Scout Medallion and I thought the Queen’s Scout Award would be a good next step,” she said.
Sahara also had the added pressure of doing year 12 while completing the award.
“It was difficult doing year 12 at the same time and trying to maintain my school work,” she said.
“But I’m really proud of myself and what I’ve achieved.”
