Ministry team leader Terry Dunn has been infected twice with the mosquito-borne disease and wanted more people to be aware of the side effects.
“Over the summer months Ross River virus has spread rapidly and there have now been reports of it affecting the lives of people overseas,” he said.
As of January 1 this year until the end of February there had been 109 notified cases in the Grampians region, compared with six during the same time frame last year.
“My Concern is that there appears to be very little knowledge of or indeed very little accepting of Ross River virus as an illness,” Mr Dunn said.
Doctor Catherine Pye and farmer Barry Clugston will be the guest speakers at the event.
“We want to bring together people who have an interest in this subject,” Mr Dunn said.
“People can benefit from the knowledge of the experts and from talking to like-minded people.”
