Cathy Freeman Foundation has this week been again been confirmed the official Stawell Gift charity .partner for this year’s carnival.
It is now more than 20 years since Freeman made her mark at Central Park.
Freeman is most remembered at Stawell for her stunning 1995 win in the 400-metre final, hunting down rivals off scratch.
Then backing it up again in rainy conditions a year later, giving up starts of more than 54 metres and interference from another runner to defend her Stawell 400m crown.
Cathy Freeman Foundation, established in 2007, helps Indigenous children and their families recognise the power of education and be inspired to reach their full potential at school and beyond.
The foundation primarily partners with four remote Indigenous communities through Queensland and the Northern Territory.
Stawell Gift will raise awareness and support the foundation through the carnival.
