Youth Club shocked the Grampians Cricket Association with a win in the T20 Henry Gunstone Cup grand final over Buangor.
The Clubbers were one of two B grade teams to play in the competition and not only held their own but took top honours.
Justin Keilar was privileged to captain the teams and is looking forward to the challenge of playing at the next level this weekend.
“I expect a tough contest and a good game of cricket,” Keilar said.
“We play Wallan from the Gisborne Cricket Association at Cricket Willow in Daylesford, it is a semi-final. I believe the grand final will be played at the same ground on Australia Day.”
Youth Club have had plenty of in form players in the B grade Grampians Cricket Association.
They are currently undefeated and have had players perform well on a regular basis.
Keilar said Clint Slorach and Cam Kimber were the most impressive with the ball while youngsters Jarrod Illig and Ethan Marrow were leading the way with the bat.
“The players that are in form for our side include Clint and Cameron with the ball, and Jarrod and Ethan with the bat.”
The Clubbers will have the tough task of backing up Saturday’s play with a game Sunday.
Youth Club have said their fitness won’t become a factor despite playing two days in a row.
“We have a strong all round team with good batters and bowlers and we are excited by the challenge,” Keilar said.
“I don’t believe playing Saturday and Sunday will affect the standard of cricket we play at.”
Rumour is that the Wallan Cricket Club have a strong bowling attack so Keiler plans on showing them up with that bat.
“I think the game will be won with the bat,” Keilar said.
Jamie Solyom is one of the few players who have experience at the next level and he will be vital for Youth Club’s success.
Other team members incluse Angus Barham, Matt Healy, Lachlan Illig-Clark, Bradlee Carnovale, Nathan Churchill and Charlie Baird.
Youth Club have several younger players who have continued to develop over the year.
It is hoped they can hold their nerve on the big stage this weekend.
If Youth Club are to win they will play Carngham of the Grenville Cricket Association or Lexton of the Pyrenees Cricket Association.
The grand final of the Cricket Willow Shield will be played on Thursday January 26.
The final will be played at the Cricket Willow from noon.
