So unlike Anthony the new general news journalist I am closing in on my three years in charge of the Stawell sport.

In all of my time here I have never once been asked to write an editorial.
I often pick up the paper and think I would like to have my opinion on the happenings of Stawell, but when push come to shove I always shy away.
When approached earlier in the week I struggled to come up with something I was passionate about that wouldn't cause too much controversy.
I was either going to be Stawell's greatest food critic, a story of a winless coach after 60 games, or another crazy dog lady.
Just over six months ago I became the happiest foster mother for the most beautiful kelpie cross spaniel fur-baby Augustus, Gussy for short.
Adopting him through local pet rescue group Adoptable meant he was cheap and rewarding or so I thought.
Teaching him to sit, lay down, socialise with my family's dogs have all been part of the journey, but the more you love them the more expensive they get.
Being an energetic pup that he is, he is always up to no good and getting himself in trouble.
He is the Houdini of the four legged variety.
He escapes two metre high colorbond fences, he breaks D shackles and he opens doors.
He has enjoyed two visits to the pound and despite the hefty fines that come with it he has been greeted with a smile, plenty of cuddles and the privilege of sleeping inside.
While initially angry, I didn’t hesitate to pay the price and I was ever so grateful to have him home.
People often describe dogs as a mans best friend. While not gender specific I would whole heartedly agree.
I’m sure I am not on my own on this one.
It doesn’t matter how many messes they make, the amount of bed they take over at night, the times where they eat more of your food than you do, or the arguments they cause, dogs are very much part of the family.
So over the next few months when the weather is warming up take care of your loved ones and take care of your pets.
If you see Gussy roaming the streets give me a yell, but know I am doing my best at keeping him in my back yard.
Merry Christmas, I hope you all have a happy and safe new year, Grace and Gus.
