Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal crash which occurred near Ledcourt on Monday.
Officers were been told a car was headed west along the Western Highway about 3.10pm.
Investigators said the driver lost control of the car which crossed onto the wrong side of the road.
Police said the vehicle collided with an east bound truck.
The driver of the car, believed to be a man in his 60s, died at the scene.
The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries and has been taken to hospital.
Police said the crash occurred near Nitschke Road, Gelnorchy.
Traffic is being diverted at Mt Drummond Road and Stawell-Warracknabeal Road.

Horsham Police have confirmed a fatality had closed the Western Highway between Stawell and Horsham.
Sergeant Jason Bergen confirmed Horsham units had been tasked to assist Stawell police at the scene of a fatality.
He said the highway would remain closed.

The Western Highway has been closed in both directions at Ledcourt, north-west of Stawell, after a vehicle collision on Monday afternoon.
The collision occurred just after 3pm and was believed to have involved a car and a truck.
Horsham Highway Patrol Acting Sergeant Mick Ryan asked drivers to avoid the area until police have set up diversions.
VicRoads has begun closing roads in the Glenorchy and Ledcourt areas as a result of the collision.
