The grant will enable Stawell Regional Health to work with staff, patients and families and other organisations to increase the transport options available to patients.
The $7350 grant from Grampians Integrated Cancer Service is part of the Cancer Conversations Service Improvement grant round.
The grants improve cancer services for people living in rural areas in one or more of the three areas identified during the Cancer Conversations Program in 2015:
- Support and assistance for consumers.
- Communication and information sharing.
- Transport, parking and accommodation.
The Stawell Oncology Transport Connections Program will be introduced in two stages:
- Assess the current transport landscape and patient and family needs.
- Look at how we can change existing services to develop a sustainable transport program.
“This grant will allow Stawell Regional Health to work together with our consumers to increase access to services,” acting primary care manager Rhys Duncan said.
“This project will address the barrier of accessing services in rural communities.”
Health promotion co-ordinator Katrina Toomey said the grant would improve options for transport to services allowing patients and families to focus on health and quality of life.
