The course, which is aimed that those working in the not for profit arena, covers a range of topics including finance, risk and roles and responsibilities.
It is being offered at the reduced price of $800, with several scholarships at $250 on offer as well.
Leadership Wimmera Chair Simone Dalton urged people volunteering and working in the not for profit organisations to take up this opportunity.
“Governance training can be a costly exercise for not for profit organisations when you include travel to Melbourne or Sydney and accommodation costs on top of course fees, so why not take advantage of this golden opportunity to train locally,” Ms Dalton said.
“Being a board member is a rewarding and important role but one that has its responsibilities.
“This one and a half day course, being held in Horsham, provides a great overview of the critical things a director needs to be aware and understand when serving on a not for profit board
“It would be ideal for those taking on or considering their first role, executives who report directly to a board and directors of committees and boards.”
Topics include:
Key duties and responsibilities of directors in the not-for-profit environment and comparison between NFP and profit sectors.
Potential personal liability of directors and council members
Governance structures
Directors roles in overseeing strategy formulation and risk management approach of the organisation
Reviewing financial statements and how to use them to understand the ‘financial story’ and health of the organisation.
“We only offer this course once a year, so I urge everyone to think seriously about taking up this offer.”
