Joiner was able to keep is perfect record in tact as he improved to 3-0.
Joiner went into the match against Joe Tullo as favourite, but faced a hostile crowd.
Tullo, who hails from Hobart had the crowd on his side, but it didn’t help his case.
Joiner was able to knock his opponent down on several occasions, but Tullo fought back. Tullo landed two strikes after the round buzzer had gone off, which further motivated Joiner.
Each time he made contact with Joiner, Joiner’s momentum was going backwards.
Joiner wasn't phased by taking a hit.
“It wasn't like I was shaky on my feet,” Joiner said.
“They were hits when I was on the move so momentum throws you into the cage, but the hit does no damage.”
Joiner made two strong combinations midway through the second round.
It was obvious to Joiner that Tullo was hurting.
“You can see it in their eyes when you land a good one,” Joiner said.
Joiner hit Tullo flush in the final round to ensure the unanimous decision went his way. While Joiner was happy he said it wasn't action packed like the crowd might have expected.
“I stuck to our game plan,” Joiner said.
“We wanted to control the fight from the middle and make him chase me from the outside. Even when he landed punches I did what I always planned to do.”
Prior to the fight, Joiner was ranked 17 in the Australian and New Zealand ranking system. He said he expected to improve his ranking following the win. Joiner will now rest his body before getting back in the octagon in June.
Joiner will fight in Sydney which is the MMA capital of Australia. Joiner is looking forward to putting his name on the map.
Joiner’s teammate Josh Wallace also fought on the night and was able to win by TKO.
Joiner’s coach Rodolfo Marques will be absent from his next fight with Marques set to return to Brazil. Marques was Joiner’s MMA coach and will leave a big hole in his squad.
“He has been amazing support since i started,” Joiner said.
“He hasn't missed a fight and it will be strange fighting without him. Hopefully I can find someone else to put everything together like he did.”
Joiner has worked with Marques for the last year and since the partnership began Joiner has won all of his fights. Joiner hopes to improve his record in Sydney to 4-0 in June.
