More than 250 residents achieved the feat in November last year by dancing the Nutbush together for five minutes and 15 seconds.
Horsham Rural City councillor Mark Radford said council received an official certificate last week.
“The certificate will be framed and displayed in the new Horsham Town Hall,” he said.
“Organisers are keen to keep the record, so another attempt to either increase or reclaim the record is planned for November next year.”
Cr Radford said while the 256 people who took part in the attempt were enough to qualify for the record, council still had to wait for official confirmation from Guinness World Records.
A Bendigo team had previously attempted the Nutbush record.
Horsham’s effort at Horsham City Oval was a fundraiser for the town hall.
Each dancer had to achieve accreditation before they could participate in the attempt, with a number of training sessions in the lead-up to the day.
