An official gathering will take place this Thursday on site where the stockpile is located, for the formal ‘pressing of the button’ to start the tyre shredder. This is the first stage in reducing the nine million tyre stockpile in Stawell, owned by Used Tyre Recycling Corporation.
“This journey will see the used tyre stockpile reduced and recycled into valuable materials."
- Dr Matthew Starr
Northern Grampians Shire Mayor, Cr Murray Emerson, will be given the honour of pressing the button to start the tyre shredder at 11am on Thursday.
Used Tyre Recycling Corporation chief executive officer, Dr Matthew Starr, will be in attendance at the launch on Thursday. Dr Starr will be speaking about the significance of this occasion and the journey ahead.
“This journey will see the used tyre stockpile reduced and recycled into valuable materials such as almost virgin carbon black and auto-quality diesel - all with zero emissions and minimal noise,” Dr Starr said.
Locals, mainly long-term unemployed, have already started work at the Stawell site, with more to follow.
