Although young and inexperienced in terms of coaching, the recruitment committee at Navarre approached the players to take on the top job.
Wayne Driscoll will lend a helping hand from the bench in a director of coaching role while Daniel Parkin and Brent Flood will remain in the coaching ranks as mentors.
Navarre has always had a tough time finding suitable coaches, but president Andrew Murphy feels like they have found a combination that works.
“We looked around for coaches, but it was time to start producing not just good footballers but good coaches as well,” Murphy said.
“With the mould we have at the minute it doesn't need to change too much.”
Murphy and the rest of the committee was excited by the decision and look forward to seeing what the two youngsters bring to the club next season.
Both players are well respected around the club with Fowkes finishing runner up in the best and fairest last season and Driscoll being one of the spearheads in the forward line.
The leadership group will consist of Fowkes, Driscoll, Parkin, Flood, Nick Murphy, Matt Newton, Louis Hannett and Josh Driscoll. Nigel Greenaway will coach the reserves with Corey Hope his assistant. Tim Bibby will take control of the under 17s and Shane Bibby the under 14.5s.
