Five giant piggy banks will travel Victoria throughout September to raise $1 million for children with life-threatening conditions.
The annual Very Special Kids Piggy Bank Appeal kicks off in the Grampians at Commonwealth Bank Stawell on Thursday, September 10 and will make its way across the region finishing at Blue Bell Hotel on Saturday, September 26.
The giant piggy bank named ‘Princess’ will stop at Commonwealth Banks in Ararat and Daylesford as well as the Red Lion Hotel and Bridge Mall in Ballarat.
Very Special Kids supports 35 families in the Grampians and 900 across Victoria that are caring for children with life-threatening conditions by providing 24-hour nursing care at Very Special Kids Hospice and family support services.
A family support worker in Ballarat provides support to families in the Grampians including counselling and advocacy as well as coordinating local programs and events that provide families the opportunity to meet each other and share information and experiences.
Very Special Kids chief executive officer Dr Sarah Hosking said the charity relies on the Victorian community to help continue its services.
“Each year it costs $7 million to operate Very Special Kids, and without donations from our community we would not be able to continue caring for these brave families,” she said.
You can make a donation or purchase merchandise online at piggybankappeal.org.au by visiting a Commonwealth Bank or ALH Group venue, or catching a giant piggy bank when it rolls into town.
