While the club is no longer in existence, the memories of yesteryear will come flooding back when the township hosts a special premiership reunion this weekend.
Members of the Hawks’ 1984, 1985 and 1986 Lexton Football League flags will return to town for a function – at the Landsborough Community Complex – this Saturday, August 1.
The formalities on the day are expected to commence at 1pm.
Landsborough defeated Lexton in all three grand finals, winning by 13 points in 1984 and 25 points in both 1985 and 1986 to complete the rare treble
Former playing coach at Landsborough, Graeme Collins, who led the team to each of the three premierships, has been behind the reunion.
Fellow organiser Brendan Amarant also played in the three-peat and said the reunion would be the first time the players had come together as a group since the triumphs.
“We have been talking about it for years and years,” Amarant said.
“People still talk about it nowadays and they haven’t been up there (Landsborough) for 30-odd years.”
Amarant said Graeme Collins had worked hard on contacting everyone he could from the three premierships so they could attend the reunion this weekend.
“Graeme has rang around and has got in contact with everyone except one bloke that was in those three premiership teams,” Amarant said.
Amarant said vision of the 1984 and 1986 grand finals would be played at the reunion, with a replay of the 1985 decider yet to be secured by the organising group.
he said the organisers were hopeful of locating a copy of the 1985 grand final so all three could be played at the reunion.
Landsborough won a total of five senior flags throughout its history – with other victories coming in 1960 and 1961 – before going into recess after the 2001 season. The club has never been reformed.
Players and supporters from throughout the club’s history are welcome to attend the reunion this weekend at the Landsborough Community Complex.
