The Stawell side started poorly and was down by 22 points at the main break.
Ashley Clugston looked dangerous in the opening term for the Roos, kicking two goals, but his impact was nullified by David Morris in the second half.
Warriors had several players that stood out but the impact of the midfield was down on what coach Brad Thomas was expecting.
“We were getting beaten in the midfield,” Thomas said.
“They were on top because we were lazy. That made our second half even more pleasing.”
In the second half Warriors began to get back into the match.
As the gap closed, the Warriors players grew in confidence.
“We picked up our intensity,” Thomas said.
“The football was ugly, but if we can win playing ugly football I am still happy. A win is a win and to beat Dimboola on their home track is huge.”
Stawell’s Jack Musgrove was moved around the ground and was beneficial to Warriors, especially as a loose man in defence.
Jamie Bach led the late surge from Stawell and was named in the best players.
The win for Stawell has ended Dimboola’s hopes of playing finals in 2015 while Stawell is now back in contention.
Warriors currently sit in fifth position and will be looking to record at least two wins from the next three games.
“The belief is back in the club, that is what we have been working for,” Thomas said.
“Our line up is more settled now and we are in good shape for finals football.”
While there were several standout players, Thomas thought each player was committed to their role on the weekend.
Stawell has the bye this weekend before playing Minyip the following Saturday.
Thomas is expecting to have an unchanged lineup.
Warriors recorded wins in both junior games but lost reserves.
Warriors kept Dimboola scoreless in both the under 17s and under 14s matches.
