Council announced that changes to the opening days and hours at the Halls Gap facility would be implemented from August 1 this year and will result in a saving to council of $16,000 per month.
The Halls Gap transfer station will now be open on Sundays from 12 noon until 4pm and will no longer open on Wednesdays and Saturdays. It had been operating for three hours each Wednesday and Sunday afternoon between May and August and for five hours each Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday between September and April.
A survey found that the attendance on Saturdays throughout the year (excluding May to August) was significantly lower than the other two days, with an average of one person using the site.
With the reduction in operating hours set to come into force in August, residents in Halls Gap have been advised that facilities at Pomonal and Stawell would be available for use and will be viable alternative options for residents.
The Stawell facility is open on Tuesday and Thursday between 1pm and 5pm, between 10am and 12pm on Fridays and 10am and 5pm on Saturdays and Sundays. The Pomonal facility is open between 1pm and 4pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Council will ensure an appropriate community communication plan is conducted leading up to a proposed changeover date of August 1.
