Swifts were down by 16 points going into the final quarter and looked to be run off their feet.
Most of the supporters thought the game was done and dusted, but the Baggies had better ideas.
Swifts started the quarter with a couple of quick goals and before too long the game was within reach.
Midway through the final quarter Swifts hit their straps and with that, hit the front for the first time in the match.
Teams went goal for goal until five minutes to go when Jeparit Rainbow kicked two consecutive goals and the lead changed once more.
Swifts answered with two of their own to win by 11 points as the siren sounded.
Coach Paul Hanns was thrilled with the way his players fought the game out.
"We were down and out but to the boys credit they kept fighting," Hanns said.
"It was a real energy zapping game and it was an important win for us."
Swifts controlled the play for most of the day, but an inability to put the score on the board meant the Storm were always a chance.
While Swifts found it hard to score at times, Jeparit Rainbow made it look easy.
"We had more opportunities, we just didn't convert as well as they did," Hanns said.
"When they went forward they scored. When we went forward it often rebounded without a score."
Swifts relied on their leaders to get the job done with captain Scott Carey, Sean Mantell and Damon Folkes all standing up when the pressure was on.
Despite being a new team in the competition Jeparit Rainbow earned plenty of respect for the way they went about their football.
"They were physical but fair," Hanns said.
"They applied plenty of pressure and they move the ball pretty well. They had a couple of pretty good players in their group so they are not a team you take lightly."
Jeparit Rainbow full forward Daniel McEldrew provided a strong target.
An in form Mark St Clair was called upon to play a shut down role on McEldrew and was able to limit his impact.
"We needed some size and Mark St Clair has been in great form," Hanns said.
"He hasn't played senior football for a couple of years and if he didn't win the battle he came out even. That was a big factor in the game."
McEldrew finished with five goals for the match.
