Chinese landscape artist Yong-jin Zhao has enjoyed teaching the students how to master the traditional style of painting using brushes and ink.
The school has benefited with fish and plum blossoms adorning its walls.
Mr Zhao spent some time teaching students how to use the brushes to create different strokes in preparation for creating decorations for the New Year festivities on February 19.
Once the students had mastered the brushes and ink, they set to work on a number of works including the fish, plum blossoms and the painting of Chinese designs on to colourful paper lanterns.
Chinese language teacher, Ms Ling, said the school was very fortunate to have a visiting Chinese artist to work with the students.
"Yong-jin Zhao is a traditional Chinese landscape artist from Hunan Province, China," she said.
"He has held exhibitions in China and also had numerous works published in books and newspapers. His specialty is Chinese Brush Painting.
"Year seven students are one of the groups learning Chinese ink brush skills and enjoying the traditional Chinese art at Stawell Secondary College.
"They are practising Yu (fish) which symbolises 'abundance for the rest of the year' and Mei Hua (plum blossom) which is one of the most loved flowers in China and commonly used for Chinese New Year decorations."
Mr Zhao is currently staying in Stawell. The students at the college are hoping that he will be able to spend some more time teaching them how to form characters and illustrations with brush and ink in the future.
As well as the art work, the students will also enjoy cooking Chinese food such as dumplings and spring rolls as part of the New Year celebrations
