Halls Gap Tourism events organiser Geoff Watts was one of many from the tourist mecca who enjoyed his day at the Stawell Racecourse.
Predicted showers of rain deterred several people from the track, but with the rain holding off until later in the day, an estimated crowd of almost 600 people attended.
Watts was happy with the atmosphere even though numbers were down.
"It was still a very successful day, but numbers were down due to the weather," Watts said.
"We expected up in the thousands, but there just wasn't the kids and families like we thought. The people that did go had a great time though."
Halls Gap Cup winning trainer Lee Creek promised he would be back for the meeting next year even if he didn't have any runners.
"They loved it," Watts said.
"It isn't worth as much money for them, but they enjoyed themselves, so they will come back. That is exciting for us to hear."
The bus from Halls Gap and surrounds provided plenty of numbers with the biggest group of people coming from Lake Fyans Holiday Park.
It was just the third running of the Grampians Halls Gap Cup and after a successful first year, then fires and now rain, organisers will be hoping the weather can be a little more kind next year.
"We have had two years where the weather has played up," Watts said.
"Fingers crossed the weather is perfect next year so our numbers are up."
On the day Stawell had two local winners from the Terry and Karina O'Sullivan stables.
Jamie Edwards of Geelong also landed a winning double at the popular meeting.
