Robins and Monteith will be the special guests at community events to formally welcome the Cup to Stawell on Wednesday, October 22.
Robins is well known for training only the second horse to record back-to-back victories in the Melbourne Cup, with Rain Lover winning in both 1968 and 1969.
Monteith was the Victoria Racing Club CEO from 2000 until 2012, and was responsible for the significant growth and success of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, including the recent internationalisation of the Emirates Melbourne Cup.
VRC Acting Chief Executive Julian Sullivan welcomed the appointment of Robins and Monteith as tour ambassadors.
"The Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour provides an opportunity to celebrate the long standing history of the Melbourne Cup Carnival and the memories it holds for all Australians.
"Mick Robins and Dale Monteith are both at the heart of Australian racing and we are proud to have them on tour this year," Sullivan said.
Now in the twelfth year of the tour, the $175,000, 18-carat gold Emirates Melbourne Cup trophy is on a 16-week journey accompanied by Melbourne Cup veterans and racing legends who will share their personal stories with communities across Australia and New Zealand.
During the visit by the Emirates Melbourne Cup to Stawell, there will be a number of community events organised to allow members of the public to join in the celebrations.
The cup tour will commence with a visit to the Stawell Athletic Club on Wednesday morning.
Stawell Racing Club will then take the Melbourne Cup to Eventide Homes, along with 1992 Melbourne Cup winner Subzero.
A parade will then take place down Main Street from 11am, followed by a community celebration at the Stawell Racecourse from 11.30am, which will include interviews with special guests and a free community barbecue.
The community is invited to attend the celebration at the Stawell Racecourse, enjoy a sausage and have their photograph taken with the Emirates Melbourne Cup and Subzero.
- A temporary road closure will be in place in Stawell’s Main Street for the duration of the street parade next Wednesday, October 22. Main Street will be closed between Patrick Street and Wimmera Street between 10.45am and 11.20am.
