Northern Grampians Shire Council has resolved to return the Visitor Information Centre (VIC) to the site of the Hub and that its services be provided by another operator.
Councillors were unanimous in their justification for the decision - adamant that it was in the best interests of the Halls Gap community.
Halls Gap Residents and Ratepayers Association president, Paul Turner has welcomed the decision to return the VIC to the centre of town, however concern remains about the provision of its services going into the future.
By lobbying their council representatives the community of Halls Gap continues to demonstrate that individuals can wield influence and affect change.
In turn, Northern Grampians Shire Council demonstrated it had listened to the concerns of residents by resolving to return the VIC to the site of the Hub.
Council received a petition with 576 signatures requesting the return of the VIC to Halls Gap and non commercialisation of the community hub.
As debate continues about whether or not finding another operator is actually in the best interests of what is primarily a community facility, one thing is for sure.
Both council and the community agree that development of the Halls Gap Hub is a massive achievement and its opening (at a date to be fixed) will be a milestone occasion for the township.
