Entries for the Stawell Tennis Club summer competition closed on Saturday and just prior to the closing date the entries sat at approximately 55.
President of the Stawell Tennis Club Mark Stainsby was expecting there to be a late rush of entries.
"So far we probably need 70 or 80 people to make the competition as good as it was last year," Stainsby said.
"There is always a late influx of people following football and netball season. No one really thinks about tennis until the weather warms up."
Last season it was a seven team competition, but if there is to be a decline in numbers the format is likely to change.
"Since we introduced the Friday night competition the numbers have been maintained," Stainsby said.
"Friday nights have been fantastic for the club, as it allows people to still play cricket or bowls. It just frees up the weekend."
Apart from the Friday night competition there is also the option of Wednesday night mixed competition, Monday night competition, Saturday juniors and even Pee Wee coaching Saturday mornings.
While the sponsorship money is steadily coming in it is important that members pay their fees before the end of October.
Membership fees are $110 for an adult, $80 for students/pensioners, $70 for juniors or $250 for a family.
There will be a grading night tonight from 6.00pm for new players to attend as well as old players just to dust off their racquets.
Friday night competition is set to start on October 17.
