The win would have come for a shock for the 22 players who took the field in black and white as they took on ladder leaders A&K Gardening Hawks.
Prior to their win last week the team looked out of sync and have struggled to be competitive.
They got out to a 10 point lead at the first break and up until the last quarter extended their lead every quarter after that.
Magpies failed to score in the final term, but had done enough to secure their first win for the season.
The final score was Magpies 10.9.69 defeating Hawks 6.5.41.
Angus Stoffel led the goal kicking with three goals while Max Mellor, Joshua Reid and Jedd Gay all kicked two.
For the Hawks Jayden Wright and Caleb Bretherton also kicked two.
Best players were Declan Fry for the Stawell Vet Magpies and Cooper Reading for A&K Gardening Hawks.
Norton Motor Group Bulldogs and Stawell Property Transfers Tigers were unable to be separated after four quarters of football.
The teams finished on 3.2.20 apiece.
Ryan Nellthorp, Luke Matthews, and Charlie Farrer each kicked a goal for Bulldogs while the goal kickers for the Tigers were Jacob Salmi, Brodie Kindred and Nicholas Meyer.
Semi finals will start tonight with Hawks taking on the Bulldogs at 6pm and Tigers and the Magpies to follow.
