Residents, staff and volunteers got together to stage the mock wedding, which included all the traditional trimmings of a ceremony, wedding feast MC'd by Neil Thornton, speeches and dancing to tunes by Carmel Phelan.

Leisure and Lifestyle Activities Co-ordinator, Grace Rethus said Eventide residents decked out the Cashin Hall with beautiful hand-made paper tissue roses and bonbonniere boxes for the guest tables filled with chocolates.

"The residents really got into the planning and decorating of the mock wedding," Ms Rethus said.

"Resident Edith Kerr, who used to bake and decorate wedding cakes, oversaw the creation of a traditional fruit wedding cake which was shared by everyone.

"Eventide volunteer Ruth McDonald even made the wedding dress!"

Ms Rethus said the mock wedding brought lots of laughs to all involved.

"It was a really fun afternoon," she said.

"The gender-swapping 'bride and groom' were an hysterical surprise for the residents acting as guests.

"We thank male volunteer Ian Campbell and staff member Rachel Coverdale for being such good sports."

Resident Max Thompson was 'flower girl', David Webb was the 'bridesmaid' and Gwen Heuston was 'father-of the bride'.

Eventide Homes Board Member, Wes Nalder, was 'Mother-of-the-bride' and staff member Sharlene McCord was 'mother-of-the-groom'.

The bridal car (gopher for two) was chauffeured by resident Eric Boschen.

Eventide Homes Chief Executive Officer, Sue Blakey congratulated Grace Rethus and the life activities team for organising such a successful event.
