Common questions that parents seek answers to include:
How do I know who my kids are talking to online?
Have you ever wondered what young people access on the web?
What do I do if my friend is being bullied on social media?
What are the dangers of young people being on social media?
If these questions sound familiar, or you want answers to other questions regarding Cyber Safety, join Project Rockit, e-Smart and others for a community information evening in Stawell next Wednesday, July 23.
Facebook, is only one of many platforms, which provide challenges for both young people and the adults in their lives.
Young people live in both the real world and the 'cyber world'. All too often the lines between the two are blurred and the life they lead in cyber space is very real to them.
While the public focus is on the dangers of social media, and bullying in particular, the reality is that our young people are rarely well equipped to deal with the issues that confront them from their use and misuse of social media.
Our schools have recognised that not only schools, but all youth organisations, clubs and the community as a whole, have a role to play in educating our young people in the responsible use of social media.
Locally the schools have commenced some work together, along with the eSmart program, on educating young people about social media, it is important that all groups involved with young people are encouraging and supporting consistent positive use of social media.
Stawell Community Action Network in association with schools, sporting clubs and organisations, including Central Grampians LLEN, Grampians Community Health, Northern Grampians Shire and Victoria Police invite you to an evening of information, advice and some answers to those hard questions.
The information evening is being held at the Stawell Secondary College Hall next Wednesday, July 23 from 7pm.
A light supper will be provided during the evening.
For more information contact Central Grampians LLEN on 5352 3266.
