Stawell's Waacks Bakery has been awarded the prestigious Baking Associations of Australia award held at a gala ceremony in Shepparton.

Owner Chris Waack said the award is a great reward for effort and it is fantastic to be recognised among their peers at the national level.

"This something we've been trying very hard to win for a number of years," he said.

"We've been tweaking the recipe, while the whole time maintaining our use of good quality ingredients and Australian fruit.

"We take great care and pride in all of our products and when you get all of that right this is the result."

The accolades didn't end there with Waacks Bakery also awarded first place state wide for its pull apart loaf, vienna loaf and pipe loaf and third place for its white sliced bread and new turkish pride bread.

Mr Waack said the secret to its success isn't an ingredient, but the level of 'care and passion' that goes it to making the final product.

He said the business had already experienced a growth in sales as a result of the awards.

There has been a ten percent jump in demand and that is expected to increase further as the word spreads about Stawell being home to Australia's best Hot Cross Bun.

There isn't many Waack's products that haven't been recognised over their 18 years in the business, the trophy cabinet in store is full of evidence supporting the calibre of creations from the vanilla slice, through to cakes and breads.

Attention now turns to Australia's best pie competition to be held later in the year.

"We've got a number of medals over the years but what we want is to be the best piemaker of Australia and that's what we'll be working on now," Mr Waack said.

Bakers from all over Australia attended the showcase of baking last weekend.
