Mitch joined the program in August when it was launched by the Central Grampians Local Learning and Employment Network. Over the last three months, with the help of his L2P Volunteer Supervising Driver Peter Bowen, Mitch has reached the required 120 hours of driving practice and successfully gained his probationary licence.
"I was told about the L2P program and thought it was a great opportunity for me to finally get over that hurdle and get my Ps," Mitch said.
"I joined the program and soon I was driving with my mentor Peter.
"I would highly recommend the L2P program to any Learner driver. You would be silly to turn down the opportunity. The best thing is it's free.
"Money is tight these days and we are lucky to have the L2P program. Thank you so much Peter and Sarah for helping me get my Ps."
L2P assists learners aged 16-20 who don't have access to a suitable vehicle or supervising driver to gain the 120 hours of driving experience required to apply for their probationary licence.
Through L2P young people are matched with a fully licenced volunteer mentor and use a community sponsored vehicle to gain this driving experience.
"The L2P program is well structured and builds confidence in young people and their driving abilities with the ultimate goal of achieving their driver licence," Peter Bowen said.
"It is very rewarding that my first mentee, Mitch, embraced the program and was successful in obtaining his licence. It was a pleasure to mentor him. I look forward to mentoring more young people in the future."
The Northern Grampians L2P program has been proudly sponsored and supported by the following businesses and community organisations: Central Grampians LLEN, Stawell Toyota and Kia Used Car Division, Northern Grampians Shire Council, Stawell Apex Club, Grampians Toy Club Inc, Rotary Club Stawell, Stawell Gold Mine, Lions Club Stawell and Gino's Tyre Services
