No-one else managed to achieve Russell's feat for the rest of the event, with her success on the ninth hole earning her ladies 'closest for the tournament' honours.
The tournament kicked off last Friday with a men's and ladies Irish stableford competition, sponsored by Frewstal Pty Ltd.
Fifty-four players converged on the fairways and John Carter, John McMahon and Pat Rathgeber finished on top in the men's division with 79 points.
Jim Freebairn, Brian Gale and Des Pickford were runner up on a countback from Tony Molan, Rob Blachford and Daryl Clayton with 76 points.
Delcie Baggs, Dot Russell and Di Fisher won the ladies division with 79 points, edging out Joan Fletcher, Julie Neumann and Bev Price by two.
Men's nearest to the pin winners were Frank Kuypers on the sixth hole, Richard Hackwill (ninth), Ken Reid (13th) and John McMahon (17th).
Carole McKendrick took out the ladies sixth while Di Russell scored on the ninth, Chris Nieward won on the 13th and Marianne Mitchell fired on the 17th.
It was a tight contest in the men's stroke competition last Saturday, which was sponsored by Skinner's Electrical.
Up against a field of 66 players, Trent Chamberlain and Leighton Dunn played off for A grade scratch honours with Chamberlain emerging the winner following the decider.
Both players finished with 75 off the stick.
Max Waters was victorious in the A grade handicap division with his return of 69 nett, while Geoff Hardy finished with runner up honours on 71 nett.
Visitor Brett Smart claimed B grade scratch spoils with 87 off the stick, just one shot ahead of second place getter Jeff Cameron.
Geoff Alborough took out the B grade handicap division on a countback from Rod Sheppard, with both players returning 71 nett.
Another playoff was needed in the C grade scratch division with Frank Kuypers and Craig Allen firing 94 off the stick.
Kuypers prevailed, relegating Allen to the runner up position.
Ryan Nellthorp also won C grade handicap honours on a countback from Greg Clode on 66 nett.
Harry Murray was nearest to the pin winner on the Skinner's Electrical sixth hole, Lyle McInerney won on the ninth, Leighton scored on the 13th and it was Gavin Orr taking out the 17th.
Peter Homden claimed the Stawell Baptist Church second shot 18th hole.
Carole McKendrick, who was last week's Stawell Golf ladies winner, continued her fine form at the weekend with a win in the Kaye Skinner-sponsored ladies stroke competition.
McKendrick was A grade scratch winner with 90 from runner up Kaye Skinner on 94.
Laura Martin finished top in the A grade handicap division with 74 nett from Jill McInerney, who was runner up with 81 on a countback.
B grade scratch spoils went to Dot Russell on 98 from Judy Clayton on 105 and Robyn Laredo won the handicap division with 76 nett, three shots ahead of Dulcie Molan.
Nearest pin prizes were awarded to Robyn Laredo on both the sixth and 13th holes while Laura Martin secured the ninth.
Grange pair Kaylene and Mal Cameron made the trip across town on Sunday to win the mixed pinehurst competition, sponsored by Drummond Golf.
They finished with a scratch score of 76 to defeat the field of 40 players.
Gavin Orr and Delcie Baggs returned 83-16 1/8 –66 7/8 to take out the handicap division.
In second place was Mathew Skinner and Kaye Skinner with 76-7 4/8-68 4/8 while Linda Maher and Des Pickford rounded out the top three with 84-14 2/8-69 6/8.
Ross Hatton was men's closest to the hole for the tournament and putting winner, finishing just 71 centimetres away from the ninth hole last Sunday.
Ladies nearest pin winners were Linda Maher on the Deep Core Drilling sixth hole, Lyn Willcock (ninth), Kaye Skinner (13th) and Joan Fletcher (17th).
It was an action packed final day to conclude the annual tournament, with 80 players hitting the fairways.
An amazing six way countback was needed to determine the winner of Tuesday's men's fourball best ball stableford competition.
In the finish, it was James Freebairn and Rod Sheppard who prevailed with 44 points from Jeff Savage/Brian Gale, Tiny Smith/Ron Coppin, Bob Wynd/Keith Darker and tying for fifth place were Geoff Alborough/Brian St Clair and Rob Blachford/Daryl Clayton.
Kaye Skinner and Laura Martin took out the ladies also on a countback, from Ruth Hatton and Leonie Bailey with 46 points.
Men's nearest pin winners were Brad Hubble (sixth hole), Phil Agnew (ninth), Josh Kelly (13th) and Trent Chamberlain (17th), while on the ladies holes it was Joan Fletcher, Kaye Lipovas, Kaye Skinner and Maree Cullen taking home the spoils.
Tomorrow is the Stawell Golf Club stroke monthly medal, sponsored by David O Jones Mitre 10.
