President Sheree Crawford said Raising Dust, which was in the process of winding up, wanted to leave a legacy to the August 11 fun run.
"Some Raising Dust members have a personal connection to someone who had or has a heart related disease and we'd like to do what we can to raise awareness of heart health," she said.
"After the success of last year's Wimmera Heart Challenge, we couldn't think of a better way to disburse some of our club's remaining funds. And I know a lot of us can't wait to take part in the event."
Event organiser Jackie Peacock said she had received around 100 entries so far, but was confident she'd exceed last year's inaugural figure of 400.
"Anyone with a reasonable degree of fitness can take part," she said.
"We'll have the five kilometre walk or run and the 10 kilometre run, both starting and finishing at Cato Lake. For kids under eight years, we'll have a run around the lake for them.
"We encourage everyone to enter online before the event, especially the teams which must register before the day."
Ms Peacock runs the Wimmera Heart Challenge in memory of her father Russell Peacock who passed away without warning from a heart attack, aged 46.
She wants to get 'people moving' and educate them about the importance of good heart health. Last year's event raised $10,000.
"It's an ongoing concern that the Wimmera Grampians has one of the highest death rates from cardiovascular disease in Victoria," she said.
"Money raised from entries and sponsorship will go into the event trust fund for a heart health awareness project in the future."
The Stawell Field and Game Club will run a barbecue at Cato Lake.
