Work underway at Alluvial Estate

WORK has commenced on the next stage of a new housing project expected to accommodate up to 50 local workers. Member for Ripon Martha Haylett joined E2E Growth Director Ashu Goel and Mayor Bob Sanders on Thursday to mark the start of development on the site off McNeil Street. Stage two of the Alluvial Estate will see the construction of 15 new worker accommodation houses.

The Victorian Government is supporting the project through the Regional Worker Accommodation Fund.

Last year, the government announced $3.5 million towards building new worker accommodation in Ararat across multiple sites.

Elmstone group received $460,000 towards the construction of ten single bedroom homes, while E2E Pty Ltd received $3.1 million to construct 15 homes ranging from three to five bedrooms.

The construction of homes to accommodate workers followed a push from Ararat Rural City Council to address Ararat’s chronic housing shortage.

For a number of years, council and local employers spoke of the dire state of housing availability in Ararat and how it impacted on their ability to attract staff.

Ms Haylett said the funding from the Regional Worker Accommodation Fund is helping to make a significant impact.

“25 new homes is a huge boost for this town, to the local economy and to local employers who have been screaming out for more housing and accommodation for workers for many years now.

“In my time as the Member for Ripon the missing piece in the Ararat community has been housing and now we are finally addressing this issue,” she said.

Ararat Rural City Council CEO Dr Tim Harrison said the new housing will make a significant difference.

“We’re seeing over $3.5 million spent here to bring 25 homes to working people of Ararat. It’s really important for our local industries. Health, manufacturing, meat processing and other industries will all benefit,” Dr Harrison said.

E2E Director Ashu Goel said his company is heavily invested in new homes for Ararat.

“I remember when we first came to town, he (Dr Harrison) said we are short of 300 houses and I said we promise you, in six years time we will deliver half of them.

“There are some councils which are good and there are some who are outstanding. Ararat has been the best council we have ever worked with,” he said.

The 15 new homes at Alluvial Estate are expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
