Owner and winemaker Mark Summerfield said the recognition was a proud moment for the business.

“We took that out this week and a couple of weeks ago we took out the Western Victorian Wine Challenge for Best Shiraz,” he said.

“It’s just nice to get recognition, it’s really great for the company. I love it for the business, and I love it for us as reassurance that we’re on the right track.”

Mr Summerfield said the award had created “a great buzz” among his staff.

“They have great confidence in what’s happening,” he said.

Mr Summerfield explained that shows like the Ballarat Wine Awards and and Western Victoria Wine Challenge really showcase the hard work local wineries put in to make their wines the best.

“It’s always refreshing to get recognition from your peers and from the judges. We work hard in this industry, it’s a hard industry, and these things are not a given. They’re great when they come along.”

The Pyrenees region has been performing strongly across wine shows this year.

“Some of the best wineries come out of the Grampians and the Pyrenees,” Mr Summerfield said.

He also acknowledging neighbouring wineries such as Taltarni and Blue Pyrenees and beyond for their recent successes.

“It’s a wonderful red wine area, a wine area in general.”
