Funding guidelines for phase three of the Local Roads and Community Infastructure program are online, meaning councils can allocate the grant money out to various priority projects.

Northern Grampians Shire will receive $3,715,968 from the program - out of a total of $37 million for the Mallee electorate.

Member for Mallee Anne Webster said the grants program would help regional councils work their way out of the pandemic.

"This is fantastic news for communities, and I am excited to announce our local governments can now nominate priority projects for funding, to move them from the wish list and make them reality," she said.

"It's been a tough few years filled with unexpected and downright difficult times. However, Mallee local governments and communities have pulled together to keep the wheels turning."

The guidelines will prove eligibility criteria for projects seeking funding through the program, and has been informed on a range of factors.

Eligible projects must have a construction time period between January 1, 2022, and June 30, 2023.

Councils can nominate a range of road projects for funding under the program, such as traffic signs, street lighting, bridges, tunnels and rest areas.

Funding can also be allocated to community projects, such as upgrading park and play facilities, installing Wi-Fi networks and improving bike and walking paths.

Nearby Horsham Rural City Council will receive $2,856,792 from the fund, and Ararat will receive $2,922,716.
