A proposal for a major development at one of Stawell's largest employers has been listed on public notice after its submission to the Northern Grampians Shire Council in September.

Frew Foods International have submitted the proposal which has an estimated cost of any development for which the permit is required to be at $1.68 million.
Frew Foods International's planning proposal focused on the development of three buildings, including a Personnel Access Entry facility, development of Chiller Number Five and an extension of the cutting room.
The proposal is for the site located at 46 Abattoir Road, Stawell, Lots 1 and 2 on Plan subdivision 206222A, Crown allotment 2 Section 266, a 8.637 hectare area.
In the planning proposal the construction of the chiller room is needed due to an increase in demand.

Some smaller cool rooms and chillers will need to be removed or demolished to allow the construction of the new chiller.
The proposed chiller room is 28.59 metres by 10.83 metres and will hold lamb and sheep carcasses under refrigeration and processed lamb for storage.
The cutting room extension proposal is 20 metres by five metres and is to be used as dry storage for pallets crates, boxes prior to use.

Five bays near the skin shed will also need to be removed as part of the development.
There will need be an increase in net area of the site by 978.7 square metres, meaning under the municipal planning strategy and planning policy framework 28 new car parking spaces will need to be constructed.
Any objection must submitted in writing to the Northern Grampians Shire Council addressed to PO Box 580 Stawell Vic 3380 or by email to planning@ngshire.vic.gov.au.
An objection must include the reasons for objection and how the objector would be affected.
The Responsible Authority will not decided on the application before the 29 September, 2021.
Frews Abattoir was established in 1984 and is now operated as Frew Foods International.
The abattoir is a large domestic wholesaler and exporter to over 100 countries
The site employs up to 500 employees and has the capacity to process up to 6000 lambs per day.
According to the planning proposal the proposed development will not have any impact on the amenity of the area or surrounding land use and-or development and provides continued improvements to the facility to meet current health and safety regulations and requirements.
