The section of boom gates had bent at a right angle and was getting caught on signage around the level crossing.
Initially, Creswick Road was closed to traffic at the level crossing with city-bound traffic being diverted at Howitt Street and forced to use either Burnbank Street or Wendouree Parade to access the CBD.
By 9am, the level crossing had reopened to traffic with train services halted between Ballarat and Wendouree stations while VicTrack crews worked on repairing the boom gates.
Multiple V/Line services were cancelled on the Ballarat line due to the weather conditions and faults to rail equipment and level crossings.
Passengers travelling between Ballarat and Wendouree were advised to expect delays of up to 40 minutes while track congestion eased.
